2018 World Food Prize Awarded To David Nabarro, Lawrence Haddad

The 2018 World Food Prize was awarded today to David Nabarro and Lawrence Haddad, for their work reducing maternal and child malnutrition. According to the World Food Prize press release, their efforts contributed toward “reducing the world’s number of stunted children by 10 million between 2012 and 2017.”

Dr. Nabarro, strategic director of Skills, Systems & Synergies for Sustainable Development (4SD), was a recent candidate for Director-General of the World Health Organization, and has played many critical roles in UN and civil society initiatives focused on food security and health over the past decade. These roles are detailed in Nabarro’s statement [pdf] on receiving the award.

Dr. Haddad, executive director of the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), has also worked in multiple roles to make nutrition a global priority and to increase investment from public and private sector partners, most notably in his role co-chairing the Global Nutrition Report.

“Drs. Haddad and Nabarro will receive the World Food Prize at a ceremony in the Iowa State Capitol building in Des Moines, Iowa, on the evening of October 18, 2018,” according to the press release.
